Contrast is part of colour selection, but it's a very unique and important part to remember. What's the contrast? It's the degree of visual disparity between a picture's darker and lighter sections, or the way shades of colours correlate.

The best comparison is always black-on-white or vice-versa. Yet bright colours on a dark background will be high contrast. The layout itself can have a lot to do with the overall contrast, as far as the material and what colours are or are the most important. Achieving the highest possible contrast isn't always the goal. Many people like a low-contrast print's subtle look. I'm a big fan. But it can be a fine line between low-contrast and no-contrast, so be careful. This example shows the difference.

Often we print black shirts with black ink when customers want a very subtle look, but it's uncommon. If you're trying to set up something like that, make sure we know it's your goal, so your order won't get marked for correction.
